This page explains the information Polar Beacon Tools uses to operate the product. It is written for clarity and will be updated as the service changes.
Using tools without an account
Many features store work and preferences in your browser's local storage. This can include timers, routines, recent activity, music settings, accessibility preferences, tutorial choices, a safe nickname and icon, and supported app work. That information remains in the device and browser where it was created unless you export it, clear browser data, or sign in to a supported cloud-sync feature.
Accounts and cloud data
Account sign-in is provided through Firebase Authentication. When a supported feature syncs, its data is stored in Firebase Firestore under your account identifier. The product may store preferences, saved work, game progress, homepage layout, profile selections, and subscription entitlement information needed to provide the service.
Speech-to-text
Speech-to-text is optional and is only started after you select a microphone control. Recognition is provided through supported browser speech-recognition capabilities, which may process audio through the browser or its service provider under that provider's policies. Polar Beacon Tools displays the transcription for review before it is inserted into a field and does not submit the text automatically.
Music and sound
The included background music and alarm tones are generated in the browser through the Web Audio API. Music preferences and approximate playback position may be saved locally and, where supported, synced as a preference. The app does not record microphone audio for the music system.
Payments
Subscription checkout and billing management are handled by Stripe. Polar Beacon Tools does not ask you to enter full payment-card details directly into the app. Stripe processes the payment information needed for checkout and subscription management.
Third-party requests
Word It! sends searched words to its dictionary data provider so definitions can be returned. Firebase and Stripe process technical information needed for authentication, cloud storage, functions, hosting, and billing. Browser speech recognition, when enabled by the user, is governed by the browser or recognition provider.
Product diagnostics
The product may use limited technical and usage information to understand errors, onboarding completion, feature use, and service reliability. It is not intended to collect the contents of private notes for advertising.
Notifications
Signed-in users can choose which in-app reminders appear. Read state and notification preferences may be stored with the account. Time It! may request permission to show a local browser notification when a timer finishes. Polar Beacon Tools does not currently operate a general server-push notification service.
Your choices
- Use supported tools locally without creating an account.
- Leave speech-to-text disabled or stop recognition at any time.
- Decline or revoke browser notification permission.
- Export or import local data from the Account page.
- Reset shared preferences, selected app data, tutorials, accessibility settings, or all local data.
- Contact support about account data or deletion.
